Muottas-Muragl-Schlittelbahn
Overview
Intro
There’s the sound of crunching snow in the air on Muottas Muragl among the pine trees and the larch trees with their own dusting of snow…
Description
…and that crunching sound comes from the dare-devil braking manoeuvres that are necessary whenever things get a bit tight in those hairpin bends.
In fact, there’s no fewer than twenty hairpin bends to be negotiated on the downhill run to the Punt Muragl valley station. And there’s a good reason why the toboggan run here is considered as one of the fastest in the Engadin. The run itself is more than 4 km long, with steep hairpin bends and a drop in altitude of 718 m guaranteed to get the adrenaline going. In fact, this adventure is not suitable for infants or beginners. You need to have your toboggan fully under control at all times and enough strength in your legs to be able to stop suddenly if required.
The run initially takes in open alpine slopes before racing through under the railway bridge and finally popping out again among the forest of Swiss pine and larch. But before the view is finally obstructed by the conifers, you should spend some time up on the popular panoramic mountain of Muottas Muragl and its wonderful views. Indeed, these panoramic views of the Engadin lake plateau with St. Moritz, right across to the summits of Piz Palü and Piz Bernina with its white Biancograt ridge, are like a picture postcard.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
