This tour is suitable for snowshoe enthusiasts with an average level of fitness, who are looking for traditional landscapes, beautiful Appenzeller farmhouses and a fantastic panorama. The most beautiful section of the hike: the walk over the «Mäder», a sheltered hill moor.
Description
This circular tour starts in the middle of the pretty village of Brülisau with its unmissable neo-Romanesque Church of St. Sebastian. You will reach open fields of snow after passing the Church and going over the Horstbach stream. You will continue going upwards between scattered farmhouses, which are occupied all year round, to Zubringerstrasse on which the Bachers holiday village is situated.
There the path branches off and follows a meadow road to the most beautiful section of the hike: the walk over the so-called «Mäder» – a sheltered, unbelievably quiet hill moor –, which is strewn with colourful alpine flora in the spring. You will cross the Horstbach stream once again. Passing Alp Fulen with the frozen Fulenseeli, you will reach the highest point of the tour. The Ruhesitz mountain restaurant offers a culinary break to catch your breath with beautiful views: The view stretches to Alpstein and far beyond the hills of Appenzellerland.
With the panorama as your constant companion, the route goes over open countryside towards the valley and the Rossberg property, which is inhabited all year round, and back down to the starting point in Brülisau.
