Intro

A tour under the spell of the Mythen, which are skirted to the “rear”. Seen from the Furggelenstock, the Grosse Mythen looks deceptively like the Matterhorn. Einsiedeln is famous for its magnificent monastery church and well-preserved village centre.

Description

The starting point is Holzegg, which can be reached by cable car. There is a secured trail for climbing enthusiasts up the Grosse Mythen. The views from the summit in any direction are spectacular.

A scenic, well-surfaced path leads along the sparsely wooded hillside. A look back at Lake Lauerz and the Grosse Mythen is well worth it. The beauty of the Mythen also embellishes the National Council Chamber in the Federal Parliament building. On the right side, you pass the Rotenflue, which can be reached all year round by cable car from Schwyz.

While the hike used to lead along the edge of the Ibergeregg nature reserve, it now takes you directly through it from Müsliegg to Gämschspitz. The area is characterised by upland moors and fens and is home to various orchid species, moor gentian, capercaillie and fritillaries.

Hiking beaten tracks through wet meadows, over several small streams and up wooden stairs, you reach Halbegg. Here the view opens up to the east to Hoch-Ybrig with the Druesberg and the magnificent panorama of the Alpine foothills. The first short ascent is now behind you. A scenic ridge walk in the nature reserve begins.

Next comes the steep ascent to Furggelenstock at 1,650 metres above sea level. A fence keeps the cows away from the two panoramic maps, which explain what can be seen in the 360-degree panorama on a clear day - Pilatus, Stanserhorn, Glärnisch, Säntis or even Lake Zurich in the distance. A steep descent followed by ups and downs to Butziflue is next. Amselgschwänd also offers fantastic panoramic views. Later Sihlsee lake catches the eye. After a 500-metre descent, you reach the imposing Einsiedeln Monastery.

Einsiedeln Monastery has cultivated a culture of hospitality for over a thousand years. Pilgrims on the Way of St. James, people interested in culture and travellers stop here. The magnificent monastery church with its Mercy Chapel and Black Madonna or the extensive library are just two of the pilgrimage site's treasures.

Continue through the old town on cobblestoned main street and just a few steps away from the Gingerbread Museum. The physically demanding hike ends at the railway station.

An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
