Sentiero Lago di Lugano
Overview
Intro
The tour leads past the Denti della Vecchia rock formations over the Monte Boglia, through beech forests and high plateaux to Monte Bré, a vantage platform high above Lugano.
Description
Capanna Pairolo is located in a sunny spot, surrounded by lush meadows. The view across Val d’Usin is magnificent. The trail immediately climbs towards the ridgeway and border with Italy. A path criss-crossed by roots winds through a birch forest. The area becomes increasingly rocky around Denti della Vecchia. The view of the surrounding mountains and lakes is spectacular.
There is then a short descent to Pian di Scagn with a few viewing windows onto the city of Lugano. After walking for around two hours, the next ascent begins, with a steep zig-zagging path to Monte Boglia. When you arrive at the highest point of the hike, you should take a break to enjoy the panoramic view. The arms of Lake Lugano are reminiscent of Scandinavian fjords.
Now comes the longer descent of around 750 metres in elevation to Monte Bré. A cable car takes you down from Switzerland’s sunniest mountain to Lugano. You then walk along the pretty lake promenade, with its Mediterranean feel, to Lugano Paradiso, where this stage ends. Benches, restaurants, beautifully landscaped gardens and tree-lined avenues along the way tempt you to take a longer break. And the lake is the perfect place to cool off at the end of your hike.
