Visperterminen-Panoramatrail
Overview
Intro
Visperterminen Panorama Trail: the name says it all! The higher you climb, the more 4,000-meter Valais peaks you can admire. This fairly easy tour takes you up Mount Gibidum, with one of the most impressive viewing pulpits in the Rhone Valley.
Description
From the mountain village of Visperterminen, you take the chair lift to Giw mountain station (1,962 m.a.s.l.) to gain the first meters of altitude on this tour. At the top, the Panorama Snowshoe Trail begins next to the ski lift. The first meters through the forest are not very steep. At the hut in the forest clearing, the trail branches off towards Stafel. After an initial climb, you cross the ski lift line and then the terrain flattens out across the ski run until you reach Stafel village. You are already above the tree line here, and now the trail ascends even more steeply to the Gibidum Pass.
As you climb higher, the panorama that gives this trail its name becomes even broader. You now have time to enjoy the vista of the Rhone Valley below, and the mountain world all around you, as you trek over the next flat section that twists and turns past frozen Lake Gibidum. From Lengi Teiffi, the route climbs again to the highest point of the tour: the Gibidum viewing pulpit at 2,316 m.a.s.l. What makes this panorama unique is the 360° all-round view: you can spot 14 peaks of 4,000 meters or more, including the Matterhorn. Because of its location, Mount Gibidum is also used as a radio station.
Once you have sated your eyes on the panorama, you take the same route to descend to the lake again; continue below the pass and back to the mountain station of the chair lift at Giw. If you have time, you can sample the fare in the mountain restaurant here. A visit to Visperterminen is also worthwhile because of the well-preserved village centre with its old Valais houses.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
