Winegrowing villages between Geneva and Vaud
Overview
Intro
The former vineyard villages between Coppet and Nyon are picture perfect and worth a visit to soak up their unique atmosphere. This hike follows small lanes past churches, castles, vineyards and villages.
Description
The starting point for the hike is the small town of Coppet on the banks of Lake Geneva. “Route de Suisse”, the town’s 300-metre long main street, is lined with pretty arcades, shops and restaurants – the perfect place for a stroll and a browse. Some rooms in the private castle are also open to visitors. The hike passes alongside the castle gardens, themselves worth a visit or a look over the fence. This is followed by a short and picturesque ascent to Commugny Church. The route then continues through the residential area of Founex and inland through the vineyards to Château de Bossey, today an international conference and training centre owned by the World Council of Churches.
The small village of Céligny with its picturesque houses, fountains adorned with flowers and village church is a real highlight along the way. Nearby Crans with its pretty centre and castle also deserves a mention, not least due to the fact that the Camino de Santiago passes through it.
The trail runs alongside railways and vineyards, through a small forest and over the River Boiron to the old town and castle of Nyon.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
