Intro
Relaxing winter hike with a view – there are no challenging ascents to overcome on this tour. Nevertheless, it offers magnificent views across the sunny plateau and the Valais mountains, including the Matterhorn.
Description
Bettmeralp sits on a sunny terrace high above the Rhône Valley. The winter hiking trail starts at the cable car mountain station. Always in plain sight along the way: the 4,000-metre peaks of Valais, including the majestic Matterhorn, Switzerland's iconic landmark.
The route follows the street through the village centre with its shops and chalets, gently ascending to the valley station of the Bettmerhorn cable car. After that, nearby Bettmersee lake, located below the Bettmerhorn at 2,009 metres above sea level, can be easily reached. The trail winds its way along the lakeshore towards the west, past the cross-country ski trail and the Blausee-Schönbodu piste.
Flat at first, then gently ascending, the hike leads to the intermediate station of the Blausee chair lift. At the reservoir, take the ski run underpass. The flat section to the Golmenlift mountain station is shared with tobogganers. From there, the trail descends along the ski run to the Alpine barns at Gopplerlücke. Riederalp, the tour's destination, is now already visible. Then the route passes through sparse forest to the valley station of the Moosfluh cable car. Soon after a last section on the Aletsch Promenade, your hike ends at Riederalp Mitte.
