Sagno and the herbal ingredients of Ticino gin
Overview
Intro
The village of Sagno is located in Ticino’s southernmost valley, the Muggio Valley. It boasts a unique, sun-drenched hillside location on the slopes of Monte Bisbino, which straddles Switzerland and Italy. This is where the important ingredients are grown for the local gin Bisbino – Ticino’s first ever gin.
Reaching a height of 1,325m, Monte Bisbino forms the right flank of the Muggio Valley and lies on the Swiss-Italian border. The panoramic trail has countless awe-inspiring views and takes you through the chestnut forests to the summit, where you can enjoy a wonderful view of Lake Como.
The village of Sagno is well worth a visit on your descent. Reasons to linger here include not only the extraordinary hillside location at the foot of Monte Bisbino and the traditional character of the village, but also the view of the southernmost point of Switzerland and the Alps in the background as well as the vineyards of the Mendrisiotto region.
Thanks to the sunny location, aromatic ingredients grow in the historic herb garden in Sagno, which are transformed into exceptional gin varieties by a young, highly-motivated team: Bisbino gin is produced to organic standards and in harmony with nature.
