Intro
The Salginatobel Bridge is a masterpiece by the grand steel and concrete pioneer Robert Maillart (1872-1940). The Swiss structural engineer created innovative and groundbreaking buildings that were to make him one of the most important engineers of his time.
A few kilometres above Schiers in the Prättigau Valley, follow the mountain road to Schuders and you'll reach the world-famous single-track bridge over the Salgina brook. It was built by the great reinforced concrete pioneer Robert Maillart just a few years after the car driving ban in Graubünden (1900-1925) had been lifted. The bridge's designation as an “International Civil Engineering Landmark” puts it in the same category as the Eiffel Tower.
Today the Salginatobelbrücke is better known than ever - and the elegant arch bridge spans the depths of the Salina Gorge at a height of over 90 meters. Tourists, who come here to admire this bold and world-famous construction, frequently walk the specially created “Historical Salginatobelbrücke circular path” that largely follows the ancient Shuderser traders’ mule track.
