Sheep Piece by Henry Moore
Overview
Intro
The lakeside promenade at Zürichhorn is home to one of the typical works by the English sculptor Henry Moore. Since the time of the Moore exhibition in Zurich in 1976 this abstract bronze sculpture "Sheep Piece" has been admired as a public work of art.
Due to his rural origins, Henry Moore was an ardent observer of nature. For his "Sheep Piece", he chose a format that was both monumental and romantic. The name was derived from its former location in a field where sheep grazed. With their oversized bodies, Moore was seeking to attract our attention to these rather mundane animals which we scarcely notice any more.
