Montreux–Zweisimmen

This panoramic route owes its name to the golden autumn. The first English-speaking tourists reported on the beautiful autumn colours, saying that they had a “Golden Time” while they were there. Today the GoldenPass still honours its name as the autumn foliage along the way is particularly impressive. The premium panoramic train winds its leisurely way from Zweisimmen in the Bernese Oberland to fashionable Montreux on Lake Geneva.

Autumn in particular is when Lauterbrunnental Valley shows its mystical side - shrouded in a light mist with winding little brooks and steep waterfalls. J. R. R. Brienz–Brienzer Rothorn

Since 1891 the steam train has been taking mountain enthusiasts from around the world up to Brienzer Rothorn – mostly in the original locomotives from when the railroad was first built. The steam cog railway has been the only one of its kind left since 1931, and riding a steam train is especially lovely in autumn thanks to the clear vistas. Every Wednesday at 10 a.m. the steam from the train is actually used to cook sausages. After they're done, the train stops so everyone can enjoy them.
