Verena Gorge
Overview
Intro
Verena Gorge is a mystical place of power that is situated just outside the city of Solothurn. A hermit still lives here to this day.
The leisurely stroll from the centre of Solothurn to the entrance of Verena Gorge takes about 30 minutes. A well-managed and easy trail then leads through the wild and romantic gorge, always along the babbling brook until it reaches the hermitage.
The hermitage, which is named after St. Verena and dates back to the 15th century, includes a hermit’s dwelling and two chapels. One of the two chapels is among the oldest buildings in Solothurn. According to a centuries-old custom, the hermitage continues to be maintained by a real hermit. Verena Gorge is especially beautiful during wintertime.
Two on-site restaurants invite guests to linger for a while.
Getting there: To Solothurn, from there on foot or by bus no. 4 in the direction of Rüttenen (St. Nikolaus stop)
