Overview
The legendary and notorious District 4 around Langstrasse boasts a short but incredibly turbulent history. Today, this city district is popular for its authenticity, multicultural diversity and cosmopolitan vibe.
Previous influxes of immigrants and drug addicts have resulted in a vibrant neighborhood full of exciting contrasts. The red-light atmosphere of places like the "Bermuda Triangle" still attract visitors, and the countless bars and clubs in the alleyways around Langstrasse hint at the wild times of years gone by.
This contrast inspires the creativity of the many galleries, architecture firms, innovative design studios and restaurants in the neighborhood. The district is colloquially known as Chreis Cheib. Cheib means animal cadaver, and historically, this area contained pits for the disposal of dead animals. The name stuck.
