Valais “Gsottus”
Overview
Intro
Where tradition meets indulgence
A dish with deep roots: for generations, “Gsottus” has been celebrated in Valais. Different cuts of meat, vegetables and spices are gently simmered for hours until everything merges into a rich, aromatic broth.
The name comes from the Swiss German sotte – to simmer, to cook. Traditionally, Gsottus was a festive meal shared with family and neighbours: first the flavourful broth was served as a soup, followed by the tender meat and vegetables. Today, it remains a symbol of what Valais stands for – warmth, community, and honest cooking. A true taste of tradition – best enjoyed with a glass of Fendant or Dôle.
