What to experience
Cable car ride (5 minutes)
On the way to Männlichen, you can see all the way to the end of the Lauterbrunnen Valley and see the Staubbach Falls, which plunge 297 meters into the depths. In summer, you can ride on the roof of the cable car cabin, the so-called open-air balcony. At the mountain station, you can look out over the majestic triumvirate of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.
- Good to know: The Royal Ride open-air balcony costs an extra 5 francs.
Royal Walk to the summit (30 minutes)
From the mountain station, the Royal Walk leads up to the summit of the Männlichen at 2343 meters. The trail begins at the so-called King's Gate and offers information boards with exciting facts about the region along the way. Once at the top, you will be rewarded with an all-round view of the Bernese Alps. In winter, the path is cleared and can also be walked on with winter shoes.
- Good to know: The climb is also suitable for families with children.
- Tip: Take your time at the top for the crown-shaped platform with a view as far as Lake Thun.
Panoramic hike to Kleine Scheidegg (2.5 hours)
On the high-altitude hiking trail from Männlichen to Kleine Scheidegg, you hike through the protected, ancient Swiss stone pine forest. In front of you you have the 1800-metre-high Eiger north face in view. At Kleine Scheidegg, you board the Jungfrau Railway, which takes you on to the Jungfraujoch, Grindelwald or back to Wengen.
- Good to know: The trail is well marked and has only slight inclines.
- Tip: Combine the hike with a visit to a restaurant on Kleine Scheidegg.
