Intro

Dr Berry stands on the terrace in front of the inn and enjoys the relaxing stillness that brings him a sense of peace. A long time ago, Dr Berry chanced upon a historic gem, which he is making passionate efforts to preserve.

Objects tell a story.

The low-ceilinged rooms in the farmhouse itself have been carefully renovated, with the focus on original Engadin tradition alongside contemporary comforts. Wherever possible, Dr Berry carried out the renovations to be true to the original. Where this wasn’t possible, he used objects that had a story behind them.

Ramosch, Swiss Historic Hotel Hof Zuort

Swiss customs house

Up until the 20th century, Hof Zuort was not only used as a farm but also served as protection for customs officers patrolling the mountain passes. A large sign bearing the inscription <<Schweizer Zollhaus>> (Swiss customs house), which has been affixed above the door leading into the inn, is intended as a reminder of this history.

“Come and visit us. We’ve got nothing.”

Before taking on Hof Zuort, H.P. Berry worked as a doctor for almost 30 years, treating people from all walks of life. Among the wealthy in particular, he has seen the disorientation that this flood of material possessions is causing. But living with less brings people a sense of calm and meaning. Hof Zuort provides the foundation for relearning how to live consciously.
