Intro

Even during his time as a world freeride champion, Emilien Badoux was a yoga enthusiast. These days he is the resident yoga instructor at the W Hotel in Verbier, where he quite literally leads his pupils into different realms. On request he will hold classes on Mont Fort, explaining: “Our only limits are the ones we set ourselves.”

He was recognised as a unique talent, but he refused to accept the limits of his body. At 16, Emilien was given a book about sports yoga and has never looked back: in 2014, he became world freeride champion.

Reaching the top through yoga

It was almost as if he had taken a magic potion. His body and mind were suddenly fused into one, and had the flexibility to perform poses that he could only have dreamt of in the past. In spite of this, he made the decision to give up the half pipe as it was taking too much of a toll on his knees. Instead, he went out into nature, carving out his own path as a freerider in the open countryside – and became World Champion in the discipline in 2014.

Valais is to snowboarders what Hawaii is to surfers.
