Dufourspitze (4,634m a.s.l.) at a glance

At 4,634 metres above sea level, the Dufourspitze in the Valais Alps is the highest peak in Switzerland as well as the entire German-speaking area. It is part of the Monte Rosa massif and was named in honour of Swiss General and cartographer Guillame-Henri Dufour. A rope team led by Charles Hudson successfully managed the first climb to the top in 1855. The traditional route leads mountaineers over the eastern side, has been used since 1872 and starts at the Monte Rosa Hut (2,883m a.s.l.). Further information and the SAC’s suggested routes

Climbing four-thousander summits requires good physical health, meticulous preparation and technical skills in mountain sports. We recommend booking a mountain guide. Switzerland Tourism accepts no liability in this case.
