Intro
The guest house at the Piz Mundaun, high above Ilanz, was built in 1902 and was one of the first inns at the Surselva. It surprises with an incredible view over the Ruinaulta between the Anterior and Posterior Rhine and looks like a picture-perfect postcard of the Graubünden region. It’s almost too good to be true, but unlike on a film set, all is authentic, all is real.

Ambience:
Still perfectly preserved and with its tasteful rustic decoration, the guest house smells of tradition and homemade food. And for those staying overnight, it offers comfortable guest rooms with a shared bathroom in the hallway as well as a wood-fired Jacuzzi. Rooms 4 and 7 have the best views across the valley.
Location:
At 1,618 metres at the eastern flank of the Piz Mundaun between the Val Lumnezia and Obersaxen. In winter, the guest house is only accessible on foot or via the Piz Mundaun-Sasolas ski slope.
Cuisine:
During the day: cheese and dried meat platters, a choice of salads and soups, cheese on toast, Capuns, grilled meat, Munggeschwänzli (chicken breast baked in dough). In the evenings (only Fridays and Saturdays): five-course meal out of granny’s cookbook – André Schaub, the host and chef, personally talks guests through the dinner and takes into account any allergies or dislikes. For example: cold venison steak with arugula and nuts, green salad with smoked wild game sausage, clear game soup with cream cheese ravioli, organic veal steak on thyme jus with pizzoccheri and spinach, plate of desserts with lukewarm chocolate cake, nut gateau parfait and Appenzell sorbet. Price: CHF 68 per person. If required, guests may be collected for dinner and brought back by snowmobile either in Surcuolm or Morissen.
