To showcase the great diversity and sustainability of the Swiss hotel industry, nine insect hotels, birdhouses and hedgehog shelters opened in May 2025. These are the winning projects of an architecture competition organised by Switzerland Tourism. As part of the Bees & Friends hotel cooperation, these Swiss hotels offer all guests, even the tiniest ones, accommodation of their dreams.
The Bees & Friends accommodations by Switzerland Tourism are a perfect example of the diversity of the Swiss hospitality landscape. These distinctive establishments are committed to sustainability and the protection of habitats for insects and small animals. Some of them also offer unique experiences – from fascinating insights into the world of pollinators to overnight stays inspired by beehives. Experiences that create special moments and bring together tiny and big guests alike.
High up on the roof of the venerable Hotel Schweizerhof Bern, colonies of bees are hard at work. They forage for nectar in Bern’s gardens, balconies and avenues and look out over the famous Sky Terrace from their hive. Down below, in the spa, their honey is used in a special massage.
