Intro

“Glamping” is right on trend: for example you could try glamorous camping in a yurt in Merlischachen. However, the greatest luxury is only revealed in the morning.

The Gehren farm in Merlischachen

Enthroned above Lake Lucerne, in the middle of a fairytale landscape, the Gehren farm has been the proud home of Silvia Bähler’s family for four generations.

Silvia took over the farm “for the sake of the family”, as she puts it. However she had a vision: While her father kept the farm running with one employee and her husband continued to run his electrical engineering office, she found a new source of income that also allowed her to look after three children: farm stay holidays.

The dream

On a trip to Mongolia, Silvia and her husband marvelled at the wide open spaces, watched horsemen whirl through the steppes and were fascinated by a new form of overnight accommodation. Anyone who travels to Mongolia will end up in a yurt sooner or later. Silvia was determined to reproduce this wonderful experience at home in Switzerland.

Conditions in a yurt are incredibly cosy and it is so ingeniously simple and quick to assemble and disassemble.

The Mongolian dream comes true

She converted the little bee house into the “smallest hotel in Switzerland”, created a party room in an old barn and set up a small restaurant in the garden. The yurt was the crowning achievement.
