Carne altrui
This is an early work by Medardo Rosso, an essential figure in the renewal of sculpture in the 20th century. This work portraying a prostitute marked the start of the artist's mature period, during which he focused on wax, an apparently shapeless material, but that if kneaded can assume a vibrant tone. Akin to photography, Medardo Rosso carves with light, merging the observer and the object with the surrounding space, in a single representation.
