In Schillers Erzählung «Wilhelm Tell» ermutigt Gertrud ihren Ehemann Werner Stauffacher zum Rütlischwur. Sie berichtet über die Mythen und Fakten rund um die Gründungsgeschichte der Eidgenossenschaft, über das Leben im Talkessel Schwyz sowie über die Stellung der Frau im Mittelalter.
