The most beautiful part of the "Morgestraich", the launch of the legendary Basel Carnival, is undoubtedly the first plate of flour soup at three o'clock in the morning.
A true "Beppi" (Basel citizen) enjoys this fortifying soup made from flour roasted brown, onions, butter, and broth only during carnival time. And not so long ago, a Basel gal was only allowed to marry, when she knew how to make flour soup.
