The Jet d'Eau
Overview
Intro
The Jet d'Eau shoots 140 meters high from Lake Geneva into the sky. Geneva's landmark is visible from anywhere in the city. Walk on the jetty to the water and experience the fountain up close
The Jet d'Eau at a glance
The Jet d'Eau stands at the outlet of Lake Geneva into the Rhône and is visible from afar – even from an airplane. Two pumps eject 500 litres of seawater per second into the air at 200 kilometres per hour. 7 tons of water are constantly in the air. A footbridge allows access to the pier – even for wheelchair users.
What to experience
On the jetty to the Jet d'Eau
Over the footbridge you go directly to the fountain and feel the fine water mist on your skin. Access to the pier is free of charge. In windy conditions, the jet can change direction – cooling is not ruled out. The Jet d'Eau is free of charge and operates all year round, except in frost or strong winds.
- Good to know: The Jet d'Eau is switched on and off by hand every day.
View from the Bains des Pâquis
From the Bains des Pâquis on the opposite side of the lake, you have the best view of the Jet d'Eau with Geneva's old town in the background. The popular seaside resort is a meeting place for the people of Geneva – for swimming, for a coffee or aperitif or simply to linger by the water.
- Good to know: The Bains des Pâquis is within walking distance of the city centre.
- Tip: In the evening light, the Jet d'Eau is illuminated – on special occasions also in colour.
Lakeside walk
On the Quai du Mont-Blanc you walk directly on Lake Geneva and always have the Jet d'Eau in view. The waterfront promenade is car-free, flat, lined with plane trees and leads past cafés and benches. On a clear day, you can see Mont Blanc in the background.
- Good to know: The pedestrian promenade is approx. 6 kilometres long and barrier-free.
- Tip: There are various boat tours – so you can see the Jet d'Eau from the water.
