Parcours Le Locle–La Sagne
Overview
Intro
Part of the UNESCO world heritage for its town planning, the town of Locle was built around the know-how of watchmakers. The snowshoe trek from Locle to La Sagne marks the change from top-of-the range watchmaking to vast open prairies.
Description
The snowshoe route starts in front of Locle Community Centre. Hikers arriving by train can walk there or use public transport. The Community Centre brings together many practitioners of sports and leisure activities. It includes a skating rink, an inside climbing wall and the start of the cross-country skiing trail.
The first section of the route is quiet and skirts the hill up to Les Crétêts. From there, the slope becomes steeper up to the top of the Jean d’Hôtaux hill. Then you must cover one more kilometre until you arrive at the Auberge du Grand-Sommartel (remember to check the opening times first).
From the Auberge, take a small detour 300 m to the west where you will find a superb viewpoint. You can overlook the Alpine range an the two villages Le Locle and La Chaux-de-Fonds. Then following the ridge leading to the Col des Entre deux Monts, you will also enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the Vallée de La Sagne, the summit of Mont Racine and in the distance, the chain of the Alps. Then through wooded pastures, you will arrive at La Sagne with the distinction of being one of the longest villages in Switzerland.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
