Senda Sursilvana
Overview
Intro
The key point of this stage is Disentis, with its Benedictine Monastery. Also Interesting is the saga surrounding the chapel at Disla. Along the banks of the young Rhine to Sumvitg. A detour up to Bostg is recommended at the start.
Description
Sedrun is the capital of the municipality of Tujetsch, an area in the Cadi on the Vorderrhein in upper Surselva. The municipality includes eleven “fractions”: Tschamut, Selva, Dieni, Rueras, Zarcuns, Camischolas, Gonda, Bugnei, Surrein, Carvogia and Sedrun, where the hike starts at the train station.
You leave the former monastery village along the railway tracks. You reach Bugnei via the attractive 120-metre-long railway viaduct (built in 1913-1925). The hike is mostly leisurely on gravel roads to Mumpé Tujetsch and Segnas. You arrive in Disentis after about two hours, via residential areas. Unmissable: the huge Benedictine monastery. The foundation walls of St. Mary’s and St. Martin’s Church were built around the year 700. The baroque monastery complex followed between 1684 and 1704.
The short descent ends at the Rhine. You hike slightly above the river to the mouth of the Aua Russein. This is followed by a superb, varied section on a path to Cumpadials. The destination for this stage is Sumvitg. The municipality has been able to preserve the Romansh language to this day. The Val Sumvitg of the same name is one of four entrances to the attractive Greina Plateau.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
