Description
This mostly flat route, which goes slightly upwards all the way, runs from the heart of the city of Winterthur into the idyllic Tösstal Valley to Bauma. The central starting point is right by Winterthur main station. You continue through the iconic Steinberggasse, with its compact rows of houses, through the small streets of the district. You follow the Mattenbach for a while.
With a slight climb to the Winterthur Seen district, it then goes straight back down to Sennhof at the foot of Kyburg Castle. Located high above the Töss, the feudal castle is home to the oldest castle museum in Switzerland. Arriving in the idyllic Töss Valley, the route winds along the Töss, where you can take a break at any time to swim and have a barbecue. The Tösstal is surrounded by forested hills and steep valleys. You will see a number of waterfalls and streams here, which flow into the river from which the valley takes its name.
In villages such as Rikon and Turbenthal up to the end point in Bauma, you come across friendly farm shops and former factories. You are surrounded by green hills and wide fields. From Bauma train station, the “Thurbo” runs every half hour to take you back to Winterthur. Tip: if you want something a little less demanding, start in Bauma and drive slightly downhill in the other direction to Winterthur.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
