Intro
Opposite Gondo on the Italian border, there is a winding road built on a terrace. A stunning wild valley stretches for 16 km beyond the road: this is the Zwischbergental.
Zwischbergental Valley at a glance
The smugglers' route across the Moncera Pass was vitally important during the world wars. Nowadays, hikers, mountain bikers and fishing enthusiasts can explore the dense forests, flower-strewn mountain pastures and refreshing mountain lakes of the Zwischbergen area. Even in winter, ski tour and snowshoe aficionados seek the tranquility of this valley.
The Laggintal valley (opposite Zwischbergen) is also a secluded haven for visitors, with a superb natural backdrop. This valley is regarded as one of Europe's most interesting habitats for butterflies.
