Cheese-making at the Invuette in Charmey
Overview
Intro
This alpine Invuettes is just 10 minutes’ drive from Charmey. Visitors not only have a chance to purchase and sample the local Gruyère and Vacherin cheeses, but can also have a go themselves.
The chalet of the Biland family lies within the Gruyère Pays-d'Enhaut Regional Nature Park. The alpine hut “Invuettes”, home to the farming family of five, is located in the heart of the Gros Mont. The father of the family, Gérard Biland, makes the famous AOP-certified Gruyère d’Alpage and Vacherin Fribourgeois cheeses every day. Visitors can do more than look over his shoulder, with everyone soon asked if they wish to lend a hand.
In the Buvette des Invuettes, Mrs Biland cooks typical regional dishes. She is one of three winners of the TV show “Un repas à la ferme”, a cooking programme from the Romandy region. The Biland family is proud of the high-quality products they create. The Biland family are happy to share the secrets and joy of their home-made cheese.
