Lake Gruyère (French: Lac de la Gruyère) is located in western Switzerland, in the
Fribourg region. At 13.5 kilometres, the longest reservoir in Switzerland is a popular destination because of its idyllic location and the many hiking and water sports opportunities.

Lake Gruyère meanders along the former course of the
Sarine. Start your discovery in Rossens, where you can cross the dam wall and a suspension bridge over the lake. Worth seeing is the Ogoz Island with its medieval towers and chapel. From
Le Bry , small solar boats go to the island. In spring, when the reservoir is emptied due to the melting snow, you can reach the island on foot.

water sports thanks to its size and idyllic location. At stations around the lake, you can rent a stand-up paddle, canoe or sailboat.
Sentier du Lac de la Gruyère
The well-marked hiking trail
"Sentier du Lac de la Gruyère" leads in three varied stages around Lake Gruyère – partly along the lakeshore, partly over hilly terrain with fantastic viewpoints. You hike through the
largest silver willow forest in Switzerland, treat yourself to a sweet break at
Maison Cailler and marvel at the
farms with pictures of alpine processions.
Around Lake Gruyère
A detour to the town of
Gruyères, with its
castle and
show dairy, is well worth it. If you feel like hiking or winter sports, the 1719-meter-high peak
La Berra is a good choice. From here you can look out over Lake Gruyère and into the Fribourg Pre-Alps. The bridge town
of Fribourg and
Bulle with the
Gruyère Museum are also worth a visit.
