Arolla is located in Valais, in the rear Val d'Hérens, at an altitude of almost 2000 meters. Surrounded by glaciers and four-thousand-metre peaks, it is a popular destination for hiking in summer and skiing in winter.

A walk through the village takes you past rustic wooden houses and the eponymous Arolla pines. In front of you rise Mont Collon and the Aiguille de la Tsa, behind them lies the glacier of Arolla. On the glacier trail you will learn how the ice masses have changed over time. In winter, the village turns into a snow-sure ski resort.
High alpine mountaineering village
Arolla is located at the gateway to the famous peaks of the Valais Alps, above all Mont Collon, the Pigne d'Arolla and the Aiguille de la Tsa. From here, the famous Haute Route takes you over glaciers and passes to Zermatt. The legendary ski mountaineering race Patrouille des Glaciers also passes through Arolla. Mountain huts such as the Cabane des Vignettes serve as a starting point for high-altitude tours to the surrounding peaks.
Hiking and skiing in the high mountains
In summer, you will experience Arolla as a paradise for hikers of all levels. Hiking trails lead you from the alpine meadows to the edge of the glaciers. A popular destination is the turquoise mountain lake Lac Bleu near La Gouille. In winter, the ski area attracts you with slopes up to 3000 meters and snow until spring. Away from the slopes you will find ideal conditions for ski touring and freeriding.
Around Arolla
In nearby Les Haudères, the Centre de géologie et glaciologie will bring you closer to the formation of the Alps. At Lac des Dix, you will visit the Grande Dixence, the highest gravity dam in the world. In Evolène, you can test your skills on the challenging via ferrata.
