Champéry is one of Switzerland’s oldest and most traditional holiday resorts. The village lies in the Val d'Illiez in the canton of Valais, at the foot of the Dents du Midi. It is known for its villagescape of traditional Valais chalets.

A walk along the village street takes you past chalets with carved balconies. The station of the cog railway from Aigle still shapes the village today. At the Palladium, you can ice skate, curl or swim all year round. Hiking trails towards the Val d'Illiez and the Dents du Midi start from the village square.
The Swiss Wall
The Croix-de-Culet gondola and Grand-Paradis chairlift take you into the Portes du Soleil ski area. It is one of the largest ski areas in the world. Twelve holiday resorts connect Switzerland and France. The best-known piste, Pas de Chavanette, also known as the Swiss Wall, is one of the steepest pistes in the Alps. It is so steep that it is marked orange, outside the usual classification system. In summer, the area becomes a biking and hiking destination.
Dents du Midi
With their distinctive peaks, the Dents du Midi dominate the landscape around Champéry. The multi-day Tour des Dents du Midi hiking trail circles the mountain massif, passing glaciers, waterfalls and mountain lakes. A popular excursion destination is Lac Vert at 1,974 metres, accessible on foot or by chairlift. There you can picnic and fish. Alp Barme, with its working farms, is also a popular hiking destination.
Around Champéry
The AOMC railway connects Champéry with Aigle on Lake Geneva and runs through the green Val d'Illiez. At the starting point, a detour to Aigle Castle amid the vineyards is well worthwhile. Via Monthey, you can reach Le Bouveret directly on Lake Geneva in half an hour. The mountain railway takes you to the neighbouring village of Morgins in the Portes du Soleil area.
