Jura Vaudois Nature Park
Intro
The Jura Vaudois Nature Park extends from the summit of La Dôle to the medieval monastic town of Romainmôtier. To the north lies the Vallée de Joux at an altitude of 1,000m. Visitor programmes are offered by the park office and local tourism organisations.
The park areas can be divided into the gorges of the Orbe and Nozon rivers, the Jura ridge between Col de la Givrine and Col du Mollendruz / Dent de Vaulion, the southern foot of the Jura, the Mont Risoux massif and the Vallée de Joux.
Solitary forests, mystical marshland, jagged limestone rocks and glades as well as pastureland surrounded by stonewalls make the nature park especially attractive for pleasure hikers, mountain bikers and snowshoe hikers.
The well-signposted network of trails is 523km long. Alpine Gruyère AOC cheese is produced by traditional methods in many mountain huts. Here and in the “Buvettes d'Alpage”, other regional products are also available.
A unique location, interesting geology and extraordinary climatic conditions shape the character of the landscape at Lac de Joux, the Jura Mountains’ largest lake. From the peaks of the Jura to its south-facing foothills, an overwhelmingly beautiful panorama extends across Lake Geneva and up to the highest peaks of the Alps, captivating the visitor again and again.
