Dams in Valais

The Mauvoisin arch dam is an impressive structure, with a height of 250 m.

With the first full reservoir in 1969, the Mattmark dam facility went into commercial operation.

The Grande Dixence, the world's highest gravity dam, collects melting water from 35 Valaisian glaciers in the region surrounding Zermatt and leading up to Val d’Hérens. The dam is a visitor attraction and also the starting point for mountain hikes.

The Tseuzier Dam (also known as Zeuzier or Rawyl Dam) is an arch dam close to Anzère.

Built in 1965 at the top of the Gries Pass, the dam is fed by melt waters from snow and the Gries Glacier.

The Moiry Dam at the head of the Grimentz Valley was brought into service in 1958.

Toules Dam lies in the community of Bourg-St-Pierre in Val d’Entremont and is fed mainly by the river Dranse d’Entremont.

Salanfe’s dam in Salvan is 52 meters high, 40 m wide at its (foundation) basis and 608 m long at its top. It has a storage capacity of 40 million cubic meters.
