Concert on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception
Overview
Intro
Festive organ music and deep harmony between the flute and the organ
As part of the Weggis Sunday Concerts, music lovers at the Church of the Immaculate Conception will once again have the opportunity to enjoy a performance by concert organist Olivier Eisenmann and his partner, flutist Verena Steffen. Their concert programme spans several centuries of music history. Works by Alessandro Besozzi, Georg Muffat, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart alternate with compositions rarely heard here by Otto Olsson, Hans Hiller, and the Swiss composer Ludwig Bonvin — compositions rarely heard in our region — and the variations on the chorale “In dulci jubilo” by the Swedish composer Rune Elmehed combine an ancient melody with a rich variety of timbres. The concert concludes with Franz Liszt’s “Preludio per il Cantico del Sol di San Francesco,” a hymn of praise to creation commemorating the 800th anniversary of the death of St. Francis of Assisi.
Musicians Olivier Eisenmann (organ) and Verena Steffen (flute), who have been performing as a duo worldwide for decades and both taught in Zug for many years, give regular concerts in Europe’s most important cathedrals, as well as overseas, and have also gained recognition through radio broadcasts and CD recordings. Eisenmann received the “Weggiser Rose” from his local community as an award for his cultural contributions. In addition, he was honored by the Cultural Commission of the City of Zug with the 2022 Zug Cultural Sash Honorary Award for his great commitment to the city of Zug as well as for the 40th anniversary of the “International Zug Organ Days.” The artist couple recently returned from a tour of Belgium, Germany, and Italy.
