Start your journey of discovery at the landing stage: with the lake glistening before you, you’ll find cafes and restaurants all around. On the waterfront promenade towards
Vitznau, it’s well worth stopping off at the memorial stone for Mark Twain, who lived in Weggis for a time. In the direction of Hertenstein, you can walk past lush gardens where palm trees, chestnut and fig trees thrive, thanks to the mild climate. Rigi with its varied hiking routes – one of which leads to the
Chänzeli viewing platform. The cable cars and mountain railways to the
Pilatus, the
Stanserhorn or the
Titlis can be reached in an entirely leisurely way by
boat. On the fjord-like Lake Lucerne, the round trips on
nostalgic paddle steamers are particularly popular.
Around Weggis
Discover the Riviera of Central Switzerland, which includes
Vitznau,
Gersau and
Brunnen. Opposite Weggis on the other side of the lake is the
Bürgenstock, with its
Hammetschwand lift and the
Felsenweg, a beautiful high-altitude cliff path. Of course, it’s also well worth taking a detour to
Lucerne, the city with the world-famous
Chapel Bridge and many other sights besides.
