Säntis Malt

The Brauerei Locher AG, acquired by the Locher family in 1886, is now the only brewery in the Appenzellerland. An independent family business, it is now in its fifth generation and is renowned around the world for its speciality beers.

The brewery started producing Appenzell Säntis Malt in 1999. This only became possible after the Swiss ban on manufacturing spirits from grain was lifted. Säntis Malt's unconventional appeal arises from its unique storage in historical oak wood beer barrels and the fact that it is made with spring water from the magnificent Alpstein mountains. By varying the raw ingredients and the finishes used, the brewery is able to produce an interesting and diverse range of beers.
