The Museum of the Swiss Charter of Confederation in Schwyz displays the most important documents of the Old Swiss Confederation and an old collection of flags. At the centre, of course, is the legendary Federal Charter of 1291. The building from 1936 with its columns and murals is itself part of the exhibition.

The Museum of the Swiss Charter of Confederation is exhibiting the original document of the Federal Charter. As inconspicuous as it looks, it was momentous: On the audio guide tour, you will learn why Schwyz, Uri and Nidwalden joined forces and how a legal treaty became a Swiss national symbol.

Understanding flags and myths
Follow the flag collection of the Schwyz estate through the centuries. You can see how the red Schwyz banner grew into the white cross that now adorns the Swiss flag. And you will learn what is behind the founding myths: Did William Tell really shoot the apple off his son's head or is he an invention?
Travel to the Middle Ages with children (1 hour)
The audio guide for children brings Swiss history to life. There is a lot to discover: On a journey into the past, the Uri bull, the heraldic animal of the canton of Uri, explains what a seal is and Walterli Tell tells you about his famous father.
