The scenic Appenzell route leads from Heiden through the hilly Appenzell landscapes to the Gallus town of St. Gallen – passing known and lesser known points of interest on the way.
Description
Discover the diversity of Appenzellerland by bicycle or electrobike – including sweeping views over Lake Constance from Heiden! From the first vantage point, take in the vistas of the St. Galler Rheintal and Alpstein. Roaming over hills and dales, the tour reveals all the various facets of this lovely region situated between Lake Constance and Säntis.
There is also a great deal to discover on the route in addition to the magnificent panorama and exceptional scenic attractions. At the Pestalozzi childrens' village in Trogen, gain an insight into the life experienced by more than 220,000 kids and teenagers from all over the world that are supported each year by the Pestalozzi Foundation. In Stein, see how the famous Appenzeller cheese is made. Talking of cheese: numerous restaurants along the way will delight in boosting your energy levels with tasty regional specialities.
At the end of the tour, the 99 meter-high «Ganggelibrugg»- and thus Europe's highest foot-bridge - lies at the threshold to St. Gallen. And on arriving in this Gallus town a stroll through the Old Town with its famous cloister district is well worth the time.
