Intro
The winter hike from Blauherd to Fluhalp follows a path whose theme is: «How animals survive in winter». The route is also the perfect opportunity for the whole family to soak up the sun.
Description
No other track in Zermatt is as sunny in the winter. The route first rises up to 2,500m in altitude and then follows the trail in the direction of Fluhalp.
Those who prefer to take their time can read the information boards. These explain the survival strategies of the animals that spend the winter here. For example, marmots hibernate with their families in their burrows. Their temperature drops to 5 ° Celsius and their hearts beat only ten times per minute. As you make your way along the route, take a moment to admire the frozen Stellisee lake, with the Matterhorn in the background. With a bit of luck, you can even observe chamois grazing on areas that haven’t been covered by snow.
You follow the same route on your way back to Blauherd. This hike is suitable for children over 4 years old.
