Description
The first stage of the Chemin des trois Lacs starts at Yverdon-les-Bains train station. In 1982, Yverdon was given the addition of les-Bains, which means “bathing resort”. The thermal springs make the small town popular with spa guests and bathers. Along the Canal Oriental, you arrive on the shore of Lake Neuchâtel. After just another hour of hiking, you reach the Pro Natura centre in Champ-Pittet. It offers nature trails, observation huts, gardens with rare flowers and vegetables as well as a restaurant.
Then comes the Grande Cariçaie nature reserve. It is the largest reed area in Switzerland and consists of swamps, shallow waters and forests. In the next two hours, paths, unsurfaced roads and short sections on surfaced roads alternate until you reach the holiday resort of Yvonand. The village lies on a wide alluvial plain at the mouth of the Menthue, surrounded by a belt of reeds and forest. Not far from the shore, the plain turns into a hilly high plateau, partly via a cliff edge.
After another hour, you reach Crevel and then the port of Cheyres. Along Les Greves du Lac, you can enjoy this natural and peaceful area before arriving in Estavayer-le-Lac. The destination is a small medieval town with cobbled streets, historic buildings and a lively atmosphere. With its marina and two beaches, it is also considered to be a water sports paradise.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
