Grenzpfad Napfbergland
Overview
Intro
The exposed high-level hike leads past steeply sloping pastures and traditional farmhouses. On the cantonal border between the Emmental and Entlebuch, fantastic panoramic views open up time and again. The Kambly show confectionery and the Marbach show dairy offer delightful culinary experiences.
Description
Trubschachen is a tranquil community in the heart of the Emmental. The hike begins at the railway station, where the large Kambly biscuit factory is also located. Here you can bake your own biscuit creations or watch the confectioners at work.
Just south of the station, you are already in a lush meadow and quickly reach the Ilfis, crossed by a narrow footbridge. The path then climbs quickly up Houenenegg, passing individual farmsteads to reach the hillcrest. After nearly two hours, you will be rewarded with magnificent views of the Hohgant and Schratteflue. Further south, the high alpine peaks of Wetterhorn, Schreckhorn and Finsteraarhorn tower over the surrounding mountains. A look back to the furrowed, steep gullies of the Napf region and the Jura chain behind it is also worthwhile.
Because the Napf area was not glaciated during the last ice age, the typical deep valleys formed around here. Starting from the highest point, the Napf, the erosive forces of water have created steep, forested gullies.
The hike leads across beautiful pastures, flowering meadows, and scattered settlements with low roofs. The path winds its way around numerous hilltops towards Wachthubel. This vantage point lies at 1,414 metres above sea level between Marbach in the Canton of Lucerne and Schangnau in the Canton of Berne. Magnificent panoramic views in all directions beckon from the hilltop.
The trail now heads steeply downhill through an old coniferous forest. The many metres in elevation difference down to Marbach are overcome in a wide bend. You briefly follow the canalised Schonbach stream before reaching the stage's destination.
Marbach offers a wide range of activities for holidaymakers, including the cable car up to the Marbachegg vantage point. Experience a true Entlebuch tradition in the mountain cheese dairy and create your own cheese in the cheese workshop. Those who prefer a more leisurely pace can visit the Marbach Lourdes Grotto on the Steiglenbach stream.
