Grenzpfad Napfbergland
Overview
Intro
The high-level hike on the narrow ridge between the Brienzer Rothorn and the Wilerhorn offers sensational views of the high-mountain panorama and turquoise-coloured Lake Brienz. The trail then descends steeply along grassy or rocky slopes. With a bit of luck, you might spot a family of ibex.
Description
After the start on the Brienzer Rothorn, you reach the stage's highest point after just 15 minutes. Surrounded by the sensational panorama of the Alps, you stand high above Lake Brienz. From here, you can see the rest of the hike over the ridge of Höch Gumme and Wilerhorn down to the Brünig Pass. The varied trail is secured in places with chains or steel ropes. Chamois and ibex can be spotted along the way. As they are perfectly adapted to their natural environment, you need a keen eye to spot the animals in the steep terrain.
A narrow path takes you about 300 metres downhill to the Eissee saddle with views of translucent turquoise Eissee lake. The route continues to the Arnihaaggen viewpoint. From here, you can see the high-level trail, the lush green pastures, the valley with bright blue Lake Brienz, the peaks of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau and the Central Swiss Alps.
The hike now leads to Zwischenegg and Gibel. The Scheidegg ridge section is secured with steel cables. You should pay particular attention to the marvellous alpine flora and the gravel, which requires sure footing in places. The same applies to the paths on particularly steep grassy or rocky slopes.
At the Wilerhorn, you leave the ridge and descend on a narrow path with hairpin turns. The route crosses the tree line and continues through sections of coniferous and later deciduous forest. Across pastures and past boulders, the end of the varied stage soon follows on the Brünig Pass. It connects the Bernese Oberland with Central Switzerland and leads from Meiringen to Giswil.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
