Hummel Tour
Overview
Intro
In terms of scenery, the Hummel Tour offers a wealth of views. A considerable portion of the route corresponds with the stretch for the Einsiedeln Iron Bike Race held every September.
Description
From the railway station we ride to the abbey and then along the main road in the direction of Gross. At Steinbach Restaurant we veer to the left of the small viaduct over Lake Sihl and follow the side road across the Ahorenweid (pasture) to Rüti-rank. From here, it is just one more kilometre before the ascent through Schräwald (forest). After climbing the first three kilometers on asphalt, there is an interesting, relatively flat stretch of about five kilometers to Unteren Hummel.
From here you can enjoy the magnificent view of Lake Sihl, Lake Zurich, Lake Pfäffikon and Lake Greifen. On a clear day, you can see as far as the Black Forest. After the long ascent to Hummel, there is a rapid descent in the direction of Gross. At the crossing (bridge) before the Steinauer sawmill, we turn left and arrive, after one kilometre, on Chälen.
Veering left, leave the road here and after a good ten minutes you will reach Chüeboden. Thereafter, the final descent to Eigen; the descent to Einsiedeln is easier via Trachslau and past the Frauenkloster Au (convent). As an alternative, it is possible to go directly to Einsiedeln from Chälen via Wäni.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
