Overview
Intro
A long ascent to the«Welschgätterli» high above the Lüsseltal, a rocky pass and the language border. The last part of the tour runs at high level to Délemont.
Description
Laufen is a historic small town with a picturesque old town and numerous street cafes. You can also visit a museum with fossils up to 200 million years old found in just a 20 kilometre radius from here. This stage starts at the station. So, if you want to visit the town centre, you’ll need to make a brief detour.
You soon leave the residential area behind. You pass the roof tile factory and are soon in open fields, and then the forest. This stage also features a planet trail. The slight climb on the forest trail takes you around the Stürmechopf. You cruise for a short while until the small village of Grindel, then come the next 300 metres of elevation to Welschgätterli. The meadow before the Gätterli is beautifully situated, particularly when it’s in full bloom.
Shortly after crossing the pass comes the descent to Montsevelier. You can really let go on the gravel road. The valley basin has a good climate for fruit trees. The fruit are carefully sorted, meaning the region produces good distillates. You then continue on a trail for a short section. The many roots make it somewhat challenging in wet weather. Back on the gravel road, the technically demanding part is over.
You then travel through an area in which iron ore was mined until the 1940s. Once you’ve left the stretch of woodland, you get your first glimpses of the cantonal capital, Delsberg. Medieval buildings and city gates as well as the castle and clock tower are witnesses of bygone times. But before you reach the beautiful city, you cross the Cerneux nature reserve. This covers around two hectares and features particularly rich vegetation, including dry grassland, a stream, ponds and various wild animals. Along the La Sorne river and past a residential quarter, this beautiful stage ends at Delémont station.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
