Water is the recurring element on the Jura Bike section leading to Couvet, first the cool and thunderous Saut du Doubs Falls, then the firewater in the form of Couvet, the legendary Green Fairy.
Description
The morning on the way from La Chaux-de-Fonds begins with a spectacle of nature. From the city centre, the route climbs up a bit to Gros-Crêt, followed by a fun downhill ride to Lac de Moron where you hear a thundering noise: at the Saut du Doubs Falls the river plunges almost 30 meters down through the rocks – a breathtaking view. While the Doubs moved leisurely through the deeply cut riverbed three days ago near St-Ursanne, it now plummets down with a frightening roar.
On a small road the route continues to Le Locle and on to Grand Sommartel. The inconspicuous peak is the starting point of a lengthy downhill ride to Couvet in the Val de Travers – the end of today’s stage. Water is also a priority here, but this time it is “firewater”. The Val de Travers is the home of absinth – which in turn offers a suitable opportunity to end the trip in style with a glass of the spirit called the “Green Fairy”.
