This rewarding tour leads through the home country of the Freiberger horses, to the small Jurassic town of Saignelégier. Here you can enjoy wide views over the extensive Jura pastures as well as the Franches-Montagnes district.
Description
The impressive building complex that catches your eye as you arrive in Saignelégier, is the Marché-Concours National de Chevaux, well known by the equestrian fraternity. A national horse market is held here every year, a festival that draws thousands of visitors from all over Switzerland. After admiring the famous grounds, you continue the tour through a natural world.
The region is above all remarkable for it's captivating wide-open views over fields, paddocks and pastures, which are bathed in a lush green. It is an easy route through a peaceful area. Here and there you meet cattle and horses roaming free on the extensive pastures. Horse-drawn carriage rides are also popular. Now and then you come across individual groups of trees and small pieces of woodland jutting up from the plain.
The isolated farmsteads, noticeable for their whitewashed facades so typical of the region, round off the idyllic overall image. The round tour soon ends back in Saignelégier, where you can admire the centre of the town, before making your way back home.
