Over 3 km of sledge fun at the bottom of Titlis: A historic sledge run awaits thrill seekers who enjoy whizzing down from Gerschnialp to Engelberg.
Description
Talented Engelberg craftsman Karl Feierabend (1868-1955) and his son Fritz (1908-1978) built the world’s first-ever steel bobsleigh in 1927. And that sleigh went down in history: Fritz Feierabend remains one of the most successful Swiss bob pilots of all time. His own bobsleigh route was built in 1913 at the same time as the funicular from Engelberg to the Gerschnialp.
Today’s Gerschni–Engelberg sledging slope runs along that venerable route. Your sledging adventure starts up on the Gerschnialp, where you can enjoy wonderful views of the Titlis and the Brunni area on the other side of the valley before winding your way through the snowy Gerschniwald forest. Here, try to get up plenty of speed for the following flatter section. Once there, you will have the opportunity to prepare yourself for the next section with its twists and turns – you will need a good technique to master all those bends.
Next, there is a final long and straight section that gives you time to cast your gaze over Engelberg, the magnificent mountains and the valley. But remember to stay concentrated, as next you have to handle the final exhilarating section – a speedy S-bend that takes you back down to the valley station.
