Senda da Muglin Bike
Overview
Intro
A physically demanding round trip by bike through various villages in the municipality of Valsot. After starting in Sent, with a view of the Lower Engadine Dolomites, it runs past hedges rich with species and the Val Sinestra spa building in the valley of the same name. You return along the Inn River to Sent via Vnà.
Description
The tour begins in sunny Sent high above the Inn. If you look around the village, you will discover another structural oddity along with the sgraffiti façades: the curved roof gables, known as “Sent gables”. They were introduced to the Inn Valley by craftsmen from Tyrol and are now considered to be a feature of the village. The route goes on towards Val Sinestra, first via a gravel path and then on a natural trail. The valley in the extreme south-east of Switzerland has so far escaped mass tourism. With its flower meadows in spring, fresh mountain air in summer and golden larch forests in autumn, it is undoubtedly one of the most attractive mountain regions in Switzerland. You can go on some superb trips by bike or on foot here.
Once you arrive in the valley, the characteristic art nouveau Val Sinestra hotel immediately catches your eye. It was built in the early 20th century on a site where six mineral springs bubble up from the mountain. The atmosphere of the former spa complex, which was closed in 1972, can still be felt today. The building has largely been preserved in its original condition; it now houses a hotel with a restaurant. The location has often been used as a film set in recent years. At the hotel level, the route leads to the other side of the Brancla river towards Giarschiglia. Away from civilisation, a path that is mostly gravel runs past attractive meadows towards Vnà. From the idyllic mountain village, you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Lower Engadine mountain landscape.
After Vnà, the path runs east to Seraplana and across the Inn. From the hamlet of Raschvella, you follow the Inn upstream to Sur En. If you would like some refreshments, you can stop off at the restaurant at Camping Sur En before tackling the final climb over the Inn towards Sent.
